In 2002, Alan T. Cohen, our Founder and Managing Principal, entered into the real estate finance world with an emphasis on acquisitions and development financing in the outer boroughs of Queens and Brooklyn. After a short stint with a small out-of-state commercial bank and later as the lead commercial real estate finance executive for a national credit union service organization, Mr. Cohen realized the level of originations submitted from so-called "brokers" was inconsistent at best and the need for a firm with a strong advisory focus was a solution to that problem. First and foremost we listened to our clients, understanding what they were trying to accomplish, determining the viability of the request and delivering on that request and counseling our clients with creative options to deliver what is required at the best terms available.
The Cohen Organization LLC was nearly 20 years ago. Shortly after successfully and directly originating loans from developers, operators and investors of commercial real estate in Manhattan and the boroughs of NYC, the focus evolved to include other Central Business Districts and secondary markets throughout the US.
